Three game balls for our final game tonight.
The third ball of the game went to Danny. Danny continued his solid play in the field, and was four-for-four at the plate and showed his base pad speed with an inside-the-park home run.
The second ball of the game went to Jake. Jake made several plays during the game and almost single handedly accounted for closing out the fifth inning for our defense. He caught one hard liner that was destined for the deep outfield. Jake, too, reached base four times, continuing to be reliable at the plate.
The first ball of the game went to Sam. Sam was spectacular in the field, making one great pop fly catch at first that I didn't think anybody would be able to get. He made several other defensive plays and hit consistently, driving in several runs.
Too many other big plays and big bats to remember them all: Jack and Nick made some great plays in the field and batted almost perfect. Will did hit a perfect five-for-five. Matthew closed out a great batting season -- final records aren't in yet, but I think he might have had the second-highest average on the team. RJ reached base four times on an equal number of very strong hits, and bailed us out of the fifth inning by bare-handing a throw at third for the final out. Liam was a PERFECT four-for-four at the plate; the ultimate cap to a season of consistent improvement. Joe got the heart of a champion award when he came up in the sixth inning -- a complete sweatball, and begged to stay in the game. Once Kyle found his groove five games ago, he kept it pumped up with several really hard, solid strokes to the outfield. Tim re-found his bat this game and got one in play.
I look forward to seeing almost everyone one last time this Saturday. We couldn't have asked for a better season with each of our players being great-natured and gelling together extraordinarily well as a team.
